Therapeutic Approaches

Some therapists avoid sharing details about their theoretical orientation to prevent confusion.  But if you're curious, here's what you need to know.

Think of therapy like buying a car:

  • You may not care where the spark plugs come from (theoretical frameworks like cognitive, humanistic, constructionist)
  • But you do care about how the parts work together (tools and strategies)
  • And what the overall performance will be (outcomes).

You want to know if I have what you need to improve your current situation - and I do.

Cognitive Therapy

Focuses on how negative beliefs shape your view of yourself, others, and the world. Sometimes a history of trauma may influence beliefs and impact your daily functioning. You'll learn to identify these beliefs and replace them with healthier, balanced ways of thinking and coping.

Training: Cognitive Processing and Behavioral Therapies and Solution-Focused Therapy.

Grief Therapy

Helps you process loss and restore your capacity for joy and satisfaction. We'll explore what's complicating or interfering with your grief processing and work toward healing and integration.

Training: Prolonged Grief Therapy and other grief therapeutic approaches.

Meaning-Centered Therapy

Supports you in sustaining and enhancing meaning during illness, loss, caregiving, or life transitions. Rediscovering meaning can reduce depression and anxiety, ease hopelessness, and improve coping.

Training: Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy.

Other Approaches

I often integrate elements from other evidence-based models to meet your unique needs.
